Deep Rest
“Perhaps depression is not a sickness, but an invitation.”
This work emerges from a personal encounter with depression, a state where even waking feels like carrying an unbearable weight. Life itself becomes heavy, exhausting, and the burden is not the world, but the self. The constant effort to hold up an image, my story, my past, my imagined future, my successes and failures becomes overwhelming.
Yet, through this heaviness, I began to see depression not as an illness to be fought, but as a quiet calling, an invitation to awaken, to remember who we are beneath the stories we tell ourselves. Beyond the waves of thought, memory, and emotion, there exists an ocean of stillness that does not come and go. Deep Rest is that ocean.
In this space, everything is allowed, every wave of sadness, every sensation, every fleeting image all welcomed into the vastness of being. The artwork reflects that realization that what we seek is not outside of us, but within the simple act of resting in the truth of who we are.
Depression, then, becomes not a curse, but a teacher guiding us toward surrender, toward gentleness, toward the home we have always belonged to. In the end, Deep Rest is an offering, a reminder that life itself longs to rest in us, and that within that rest, healing begins.
